Reference materials are always a good place to start on your research on any topic to help you build background information

• World Book Online*: Start with the California Resource Guide, which provides links to articles on all aspects of California.
• CultureGrams States Edition* includes history as well as other aspects of the 50 states. Check out the article on California.
  

Biographies

• eLibrary Elementary* - eLibrary has an eBook called California Explorers that has articles on more than 30 people
• SIRS Discoverer* – click on “Biographies” in the box on the bottom right to search for a person by name
• Books can be found in the 921 shelves of the non-fiction or biography collection, alphabetized by the person’s last name
  

Non-fiction Books

• Non-fiction history books focusing on California are usually in the 979.4 section
• Other helpful books may be in the geography section of the library, so check with your teacher or librarian
